A panoramic radiograph (also called panorexTM) is a panoramic scanning and dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaws. It shows a two-dimensional view of a half-circle from ear to ear. Among other things, panoramic X-rays are used by health care professionals to provide information on:
- Impacted wisdom teeth diagnosis and treatment planning (the status of the wisdom teeth and trauma to the jaws)
- Periodontal bone loss and periapical involvement
- Diagnosing the source of dental pain
- Assessment for the placement of dental implants
- Pre and post-operative orthodontic assessment
- Caries detection in the inter-dental area
- Diagnosis of developmental anomalies
- Carcinoma related to the jaws
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunctions
- Diagnosis of pre- and post-surgical assessment of oral and maxillofacial trauma
- Salivary stones
